Our Vision
The Northwest Environmental Justice Center provides frontline communities in Alaska, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon with direct technical assistance, training, cohort learning and leadership development, ethical storytelling, systems change and accountability.
Our approach is grounded in Indigenous values, community care, place-based connections, locally-driven solutions, and relationship building. Our goal is to actively listen, collaborate, and find solutions alongside you. We aim to provide the support your community identifies as the best solution for the issues you are facing, offering tailored environmental and energy justice assistance to meet your specific needs.
We especially want to hear from communities where environmental, health, and economic burdens and capacity constraints occur together—including Tribal and Indigenous communities, Black, Latinx, immigrant, and people with disability communities, especially in remote and rural areas.
Our Values
The Northwest Environmental Justice Center is committed to building and sharing power in communities. Together, we ensure investments are dispersed amongst populations that experience the greatest impacts from structural and systemic environmental harm.
The Center’s values are:
Joyful Justice. We find power in joy. It fuels our efforts to expand justice movements and nourishes our resilience and that of leaders committed to the cause of justice.
Collaborative Commitment. We’re here to support each other, empower one another, and take the initiative to create change.
Community-Driven Care. We are guided by the communities we serve and emphasize the care that communities identify and ask for.
By living our values, we seek to build trust and belonging over time.
Funding for the Center is provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in partnership with the Department of Energy as part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s network of Environmental and Energy Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Centers (TCTAC) network.
“El Centro de Justicia Medioambiental del Noroeste será un espacio de solidaridad y convivencia dónde tribus, comunidades e individuos participantes podrán recibir el apoyo necesario para proyectos de justicia ambiental significativos para su vida diaria. Ya era hora que nuestras comunidades pudieran diseñar y ejecutar los proyectos que necesitan desde un espacio de auto-gestión solidaria.”
